SURPRISE!

So last week I missed another day of posting. This is slowly becoming a bad habit, but this time it was all for a good reason! So I’ve been planning this surprise, but I wanted to add a twist to it and try to make it into a dessert. So it’s not the fanciest dessert, but it it will get the message across. I decided to make sugar cookies. It’s a simple recipe, but to mold this dough is a war against time and temperature. You have to keep it cold enough for it to hold it’s shape, but if it starts to melt you have to put the dough back in the fridge to regain it’s shape.

So let’s just say the conceptualizing of this cookie worked out beautifully. The execution, however, could use a little more work. In other words, I slightly failed at making these cookies. I’m going to insert a photo of the idea that I thought would work as cookies. I’m not the best person at drawing, but I think you’ll understand what I was trying to create. In the beginning, I thought that it would be cool and that they would turn into those pre-made sugar cookie rolls you get at grocery stores with Disney characters in the center of each cookie. Unfortunately, as I was trying to shape the dough, I realized I was too ambitious and went through roughly three batches of dough trying to get it just right. The more I molded the dough the more it melted, causing me to put it in the fridge and wait for it to be dough again. Trying to make a sun and stars isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. So, for this week all you’re getting is a drawing!
On a random note, this month marks my one year aniversary for my blog! Yay! So this calls for a celebration. You’ll already know I love traveling. If you can’t tell from my drawing it’s a flag of a country and to celebrate, I’m going to the Philippines! That’s right, I’m heading to Philippines for a few weeks and I’m taking you along with me. I’ll be vlogging my trip and showing you all different parts of the Philippines. I may have to upload my vlog after my trip, but follow me on Instagram @cookingwithlolajayme and you’ll get to see the adventure unfold before the vlogs come up!

Until we meet in the Philippines…
